The youngest art memory I can remember is how I would get jealous and angry at the fact that my older sister could color better than me. I would blame my lack of skill on the certain picture that I chose to color. As time passed, I didn't really draw or color or do much related to art. I would start on a piece because I would see how amazing it could be if finished but half-way through the piece I would start to see the imperfections and just quit.
In middle school, a friend of mine would do these little doodles that really got me into doing them as well. I was still not into art. I tried drawing in my free time but that always ended up in a crumpled piece of paper in the trash. At Reagan, I really got to experience a lot more mediums of art and the curriculum sort of forced me to not throw my work away and through working on it I learned that art doesn't have to be this perfect, beautiful piece. As we got more freedom with the projects, I started incorporating myself into them and as they took shape, I began to feel motivated to finish them. Now that I'm in junior art, I really hope to make the projects mine and let's see what I can learn along the way. Art is an innovative way to express myself and I like that! |
